We have spoken with Digital Adventures, LLC about what it takes to get a Battlelords version of Fantasy Grounds.  The do not have the resources to devote fully to Battlelords right now.  We wan tot create a FREE Character Sheet Ruleset (CSRS).  As I understand it, this will allow you to create a character (or input your existing ones), and allow you to play remotely with other Battlelords fans.  A big thanks to Geoff who has already done a lot of work on getting this started.  After the CSRS is out we would like to create "modules" to expand the ruleset to include our other products, like the Lock-N-Load series.

We need to judge the interest and anyone who is interested in helping develop this.  Perhaps Geoff can speak to the skills needed to develop for Fantasy Grounds?  As I understand it, this is not complicated, and Digital Adventures will be available to help guide, but it is time consuming.

So post here with questions, comments; say "HEY" if you are interested in the product and/or helping development.

I didn't see any mention that buying a Fantasy Grounds license has a time limit it on it, such that you'd need to renew it every year.  Is that accurate, that once you buy the license that you can play as long and as much as you want?

Also, would any other Battlelords stuff (beyond the character sheet) that's developed be free of cost?  Rule sets, map packs, and other such things they list on their community page look to run between $5 to $12 (or free, like d20 Modern, if it has a sponsor).

I wanted to bring this up so people are aware that there will be a cost involved, since that tends to dampen enthusiasm.

Interested, I'd definately like to hear more about what skills are needed to work on this.  I'll also ask my group(i've mentioned this place but I don't think any have looked here.

Good question about the license.  I am not sure.  I will get clarification on that also.

We have not decided if we will charge for additional modules or not.  I would guess we would charge for some, which I expect ot be in higher demand, like the Lock-N-Load series.  We are still determining what price range is normally used for these modules.  I could be wrong and we end up offering them for free, at least some of them.  It is just too early to tell for sure, and we do not have enough information.  Charging may also turn out to be a way to offer some compensation to people who help development of these modules.  It is all up in the air right now.

I am waiting to hear back on what skills are necessary to help develop.  I will post that information as soon as I have it.

OK, some more information has come in.  The skills used for development are XML/LUA and Excel, so not too severe.

It appears a license is good forever as long as you use it for FG or FGII, whichever you bought it for.

As far as I am aware, the license is good for both FantasyGrounds v1.05 and FantasyGrounds II.  I had originally purchased the software as v1.05 in March 2007, and when the newer version was released, it was a free upgrade for current owners.  Basically previous owners now had both versions with the same license.

There are two types of licenses, Full and Lite.  Lite is needed to create characters and join games.  Full does the same and allows you to run events and have players to connect.  Check out their website for more.  As far as I know, the license doesn't expire, mine hasn't yet.

I have done a lot so far, using what books I own, the excel Character Generator, and PDFs from SSDC.  There is still more to go though.

I updated the other Thread, but not this one.

I've added an entry in SSDC's wiki concerning the ruleset.  I will shortly added some of my screenshots to there as well.

I've named the title recently, but the original link does redirect there.  The current link is http://wiki.ssdc.com/wiki/Fantasy_Grounds_Ruleset_for_Battlelords

Is this still an ongoning process, if so I got a few questions after glancing at the site becuase as you'll see I've never even heard of FG before. It appears like a Instant messenger on super duper elephant steriods with all sorts of neat aids to help you run a game, correct me if I'm wrong please. Also it seems like you have to pay the registration fee to use it, one time fee not bad I can dig it. Now to play a ruleset some seem like you need to buy the ruleset(unless it's a free one of course), no do all the people playing need to buy a copy of the ruleset/suplements or just one. I read somewere that is said the host computer automaticaly distibutes the rule set to all the people connecting to it. So would that then mean that basicaly the guy running it needs to do all the purchasing? Oh and I'm assuming that like with an instant messenger it's a live realtime app not like a play by web type.

Anyway it deffinately sounds pretty darn cool to me. I wish I knew how do do some coding to help but I don't . Cry But I would deffinately be interested in playing. Any idea on how long it will be untill it's up an running? I know it's probably hard to say but I'll accept very vuage answers(Just as Blizzard how patiently I'm waiting for StarCraft 2 to be released.)

This is definitely an ongoing process, and honestly I have not done much with it in several months.

Your description is close enough, the program has a chat feature that has several "modes", i.e., OOC, EMOTEs, etc...

Playing area is there for maps, handouts, tokens, dice, etc...

The fee is one time to purchase the program, there are no monthly fees.

My understanding is that only the DM needs to have the ruleset to host games, although I think for PCs to able to create characters without being connected to the DM's computer, they will need the ruleset.

I do not have a expected completion date currently...

I am afraid I haven't made any more progress, and am fortunate to still have the files after suffering an HDD fail.  I just reinstalled it actually, got the updates, and was about to go through it again.  The last 12 mos have been somewhat challenging, but the good news is I haven't killed anyone yet over it.  Well, good news for them anyways.  At least I am not beating my carapace into the wall again.

I just thought that perhaps we should make this a community effort, as I lack some necessary skills to complete without having to learn said skills, i.e graphic design, some lua (sp?) scripting.

For those familiar with the Hero Forge excel works, several individuals took the time to import all the rules for races, classes, feats, etc...for virtually all the published material into excel to make an awesome character generation worksheet.  Various ppl took whatever section and worked on it and then submitted it, pieced it together.

Perhaps something similar?  Recruit some people of different skills, they do what they know how to do, then piece it together.

I would still like to do this.  There is a section in the wiki with for information I think.

I've got some programming skills but they're rusty. Over the next few weeks I have a bit of time and can  help out.

How is this project being planned? (If at all)

Is the data-entry complete? (ie. tables of statistics, etc.)

What's the most important thing that needs to be done, next?
